Dear Parents and Students,
Welcome to Martin High School and my Science class. This year, I will teach 4 sections of "Principles of Technology" and 2 of "Integrated Physics and Chemistry".
My background: I am 57 years old, married and have 3 sons. This is my 3rd year teaching ... all of them at Martin.
So, what did I do before this and why am I here now. I have done a broad variety of "things" in life including paper routes in high school, working on a truck dock while getting my B.S. in Physics at UT - Arlington, working as a research assistant while in graduate school (UTA, Texas A&M - gig 'em), moving into the business world working for Mobil Oil, getting an MBA at what was then North Texas State University (now, UNT), and working in computer systems design for a variety of companies. After my kids had graduated (all from Martin), I started giving some serious thought to teaching, both at the college and high school level. I finally made my "move" and resigned from a position in Plano, leaving on a Friday afternoon and going to work at Martin the following Monday.
Why did I do this? There's a very long answer to this question and I'll share it with you if you'd like to hear it. However, suffice it to say that I had worked with a couple of high school students tutoring them in math and science and found it very rewarding. I continue to do that as a teacher here at Martin.
I look forward to a very successful school year as we learn why Science is important to us, no matter what we do, and "how things work" here at MHS.
Please don't hesitate to email me or call me on my cell phone (817-703-5003) if you have any questions and/or comments about the format of our class, what we do in class, and/or the overall environment in our class.
Once again, Welcome ... now let's find out how things work.
